Job Postings

We are currently looking to fill two positions for the (fast approaching!) farming season. The first is for a neighboring farm hiring a full time farmer that would also work collaboratively with the Seed Library. The second is for a Seed Library intern. Please send letter of interest, resume, and references to Ken.

FARMER or FARM COUPLE
Seeking experienced farmer or farm couple with a minimum of 2 years farm management and 4-5 years organic growing experience to continue growing on 1+ acres already in no till production while developing an addition 20+ acres for future organic vegetable and seed production. Farmer will be provided with shared housing, land access, start-up budget, existing farm stand, and assistance with marketing, publicity, and educational events. CSA or market growing experience preferred. Willingness to work collaboratively with local seed company, farm school, botanic illustrator, and food bank. Starts Feb 2013, minimum 3 year commitment. Become part of a neighborhood farm community in the Hudson Valley (Accord, NY) that includes the Hudson Valley Seed Library, Hollengold Farm, Westwind Organic Orchard, Hudson Valley Farm School, and Rondout Valley Growers Association.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
The Hudson Valley Seed Library is hiring a full season intern. 30-35 hours per week will be spent on the seed farm with 5-10 hours per week gaining experience on neighboring farms, CRAFT meetings, helping with events, and attending Seed Library workshops. Intern will assist with all aspects of the Seed Library including seed starting, seedling sale, preparing beds, weeding, maintaining farm infrastructure, harvesting, processing, cleaning, testing, and storing seed. Because we farm and process seed by hand this is a very physically demanding job. Some previous growing experience is required. Organizational and good writing skills are a plus! Intern receives shared housing, small vegetable share, and seeds plus a monthly stipend. Position runs March - October with possibility of winter employment.

      Patrick,

Those are valuable farm skills! We don't have any jobs open right now other than the internship. If you are in our neck of the woods you may want to connect with the Rondout Valley Growers Association to find out if there are any farms looking for folks with your skills. -Ken

Do you hire seasonal workers? My son is 20 and looking for something different to do. I'm the Mini-farmer in the family and I'm trying to encourage my 4 kids to learn more about it. We are in NJ, so maybe you have other openings for someone who is willing to learn?

George, Thanks for reaching out to us to ask about other learning opportunities. We'll have workshops, farm tours, and other events during the growing season but we only have one room to offer for internships and it's hard to find housing here. If we are able to find free housing for seasonal interns we'll definitely post it and send it our in our newsletter. Stay seedy! -Ken
