Of the world comes clear and fills with color.
They persist in the sunlit room: the wall paper
Frieze of cabbage-roses and cornflowers pales
Under their thin-lipped smiles
Their withering kingship.
How they prop each other up!
from The Thin People- Sylvia PlathO my God, what am I/ That these late mouths should cry open/ In a forest of frost, in a dawn of cornflowers.
from Poppies in October- Sylvia PlathThis is one of the few true blue flowers for home gardeners. One of the others is Borage, which we offer in a lovely Art Pack. Cornflower is easy to grow and makes a long lasting cut flower. The color has inspired poetry, the name of a Crayola crayon, and been printed on collectible upstate New York based Corningware wares. Also know as knapweed, blue-bottle, star thistle, and bachelor's button.
