Details

If you love growing your own seasoning, and love the flavor that comes with the freshness of home-grown, then give cumin a try. Cumin is an umbel, and is very similar to growing dill.
Number of Seeds 200 seeds
Spacing in Row 4 to 6 inches
Spacing Between Rows 12 inches
Planting Depth 1/2 inch
Days to Germination 5 to 10 days
Days to Maturity 110 days
Height at Maturity 12 inches
Width at Maturity 8 inches
Sow outdoors as soon as possible after last frost. Sow seeds at 1 inch spacing, then thin to 4-6 inches once seeds have reached 1-2 inches high. Cumin prefers full sun, well-drained soil and adequate water. Allow plants to complete their life cycle; they will flower and produce seed. Let seeds mature on the plant, then harvest the whole plant and hang upside down to dry (if the seeds did not dry fully in the garden). When the seeds are completely dry, thresh the plants to get the seeds out. Store in a cool, dry, dark place.
