Details

Blue Flax was discovered by Meriwether Lewis on the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the early 1800s. Collecting plant specimens was an important part of the expedition and Thomas Jefferson, who was a botanist, helped train Lewis in the science of collecting and documenting new species. Much of the collection is held in Philadelphia at the Academy of Natural Sciences in cooperation with Cornell University.

This variety has short-lived sky-blue flowers that bloom in succession and may perennialize in warmer regions.
