Details

This variety of lemon grass is native to India. In tropical climates this grass is perennial, but in growing zones below 9 it is grown as an annual. Known for its extremely concentrated aroma, this variety is the type used to make lemon grass essential oil. It can be used for culinary purposes, but will not produce the thick stalks associated with West Indian Lemon Grass, which is difficult to grow from seed. In addition to its marvellous fragrance, Lemon Grass makes a great ornamental grass. Can be grown on large containers or in the garden.
Number of Seeds 200 seeds
Spacing in Row 12 inches
Spacing Between Rows 18 inches
Planting Depth 0 inches
Days to Germination 7-14 days
Days to Maturity 75 days

Start indoors 8 weeks before last frost. Sprinkle several seeds in each pot on the surface of the soil. Gently agitate the soil, then water in, taking care not to dislodge the seeds. Keep the soil moist but not wet. After germination, take care not to over water to prevent damping off. Transplant outdoors once the grass has reached 4-6 inches, and after all threat of frost has passed. Grows well in large containers, and along borders. Prefers full sun, well-drained soil and moderate water.
