Q: Where do your seeds come from?
A: Our 2010 inventory is composed primarily of seeds grown on the Hudson Valley Seed Library farm in Accord, New York, as well as seeds sourced from the commercial seed industry. The New York State symbol appears next to varieties that were grown in the region.
Q: Are your seeds certified organic?
A: Some of our seeds are certified organically grown; they are indicated with an "(og)" in the catalog. All of the seeds that are grown on the Hudson Valley Seed Library farm are grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers; we will be undergoing a certification process beginning in 2010.
Q: Do I have to become a member to order seeds?
A: Not at all. Simply add the items you would like to order to your cart and proceed to checkout.
Q: Can you help me plan my garden?
A: Our website can! On each variety detail page, you'll find plenty of information about starting the seed, transplanting the seedling (if applicable), growing the plant on, and harvesting your crop. Over the next six to twelve months, our Learn page will fill up with instructional content meant to make the prospect of maintaining a productive, three- to four-season garden manageable for novices and seasoned gardeners alike. Unfortunately, until then we are unable to provide specific, comprehensive garden-planning help. Several books we recommend to newbie growers are The Seed-Starters Handbook, by Nancy Bubel, and The New Organic Grower, by Eliot Coleman.
