Direct sow beginning 3 weeks before last frost, spacing seeds 2-3 inches apart; thin to 18 inches. Or, start seeds indoors 6 weeks before planting date. Transplant when seedlings have 3 sets of leaves. Plant again in mid-summer for a sweet fall crop. Plant in rich soil; water frequently. Collards can be grown in the spring and summer, but they are best in the fall after a light frost.
