Details

New Yorkers don't have time to wait around. This cold tolerant, early season tomato produces some of the first fruits in your garden. And, just like the new musical on Broadway, after a sensational start and a well-attended short run, this medium-sized tomato will cede the spotlight to the tomatoes ripening in the next block of your garden. The plants are compact and bear heavily, suiting small growing spaces in New York or any garden in need of a tasty and versatile opening act.

Number of Seeds 25 seeds
Days to Maturity 63 from transplant
Height at Maturity 30 to 48 inches
Width at Maturity 18 to 30 inches
Determinate. Sow indoors 3-8 weeks before last frost, then transplant after frost into good garden soil. Pruning not necessary; harvest is condensed for about 3 or 4 weeks at the very beginning of tomato season. When few tomatoes remain, pull up plants and shelf-ripen the fruit; use the garden space for fall greens.
Rachelle Cohen makes drawings, paintings and collages about place using the language of maps. Here, she envisions verdant urban gardens all over New York City.
